The Rev. Kellan Day, Rector

Meet Our Rector

The Rev. Kellan Day comes to St. James after serving as the Associate Rector at Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, North Carolina. At Incarnation, she oversaw pastoral care and outreach; she also helped open a day school in partnership with a local organization and co-created a podcast, Empty Pews, to foster connection during pandemic isolation. Mother Kellan loves helping faith communities grow in Christ and grow in love. She is committed to the preaching of the Gospel and is an enthusiastic teacher of the Christian tradition. Prior to serving in Highlands, she attended The School of Theology at Sewanee and worked as the Young Adult Missioner for the Diocese of Western Michigan. She studied religion and gender studies at Calvin College in West Michigan, where she grew up. Mother Kellan regularly contributes to Sermons that Work, a ministry of the national Episcopal Church.

She is married to Kai Koopman, who is currently enrolled as a landscape architecture graduate student at Clemson University. They have a heeler-mix rescue named Tillie. They are eager to explore rock climbing and hiking in upper South Carolina. But most of all, they are eager to get to know the good people of St. James!
